The Hong Kong Chinese Community
.... a lot of confidence in politicians because of poor
examples provided by ongoing tensions between Communist China and nationalist
Taiwan. "We have to educate them and tell them politics in North America and
Canada is very different from what they saw of politics in Hong Kong and China."
Dr. Joseph Wong, whose community activism has earned him the Order of
Canada, thinks that despite changes in Chinese attitudes, fear is still an
obstacle towards political evolution. People are not afraid to dema .....

Chivalry
.... placed in the castle of a lord or govenor. This is where
the training for knighthood began. As a page, the boy would be tutored in
Latin and French, but he devoted most of his time to physical exersice, and
duties. A page was educated in wrestling, tilting with spears, and military
exercises that were done on horseback. He was also taught dancing and playing
of musical instruments in their leisure time. As a page, a boy was taught how
to carve and serve food as a waiter, and other services around th .....

Christmas, Retailers, And The Santa Claus Conspiracy
.... upon their children).
The whole idea of Santa Claus is one of the scariest I've come across
and yet we embrace it. The entire story sounds like something you should
threaten your kid with if he doesn't want to eat his veggies. As I understand
it he's supposed to be a fat man wearing red underwear who is capable of sliding
down your chimney unharmed in order to quietly slip into your house while you're
sleeping. If he really existed I'd be sitting up with a loaded shotgun every
Christmas Eve, not .....

Civilize The Wilderness
.... Technology plays an important role in everyone's lives today.
Without it, we would not have computers, fax machines, cellular phones, and all
of the modern conveniences that we have today. The fact is, that many people
believe that the wilderness is like an unborn country. A country that has
nothing and is striving to become more advanced. We see this as an opportunity
to better it and make it seem like we are actually helping. But, are we really
helping? In my opinion, no. I feel that we .....

Communication Skills
.... hear a bird chirping, you might incorporate it to what you where just about
to say. This makes the person you're talking to even more comfortable with what
you are trying to convey with your thoughts and ideas. This is how different
things can effect one's communication skill, speaking.
A second communication skill is body language, a very personal way of
expressing yourself without words. One's body language can carry a whole
conversation without even saying a word. Sign language is an excellent .....

Concerns Facing The United States In The 1990s: Crime, Education, And Employment
.... nations. Illiteracy rates are high, and
more and more students are graduating from school even if they have been absent
more days than allowed. To improve this, committees have been organized will
develop voluntary national and state standards for education and authorize
grants to develop model programs to improve learning.
Employment is an issue that every American must deal with. In society
today, women are forcing their way into the business world. Although females'
incomes are generally less tha .....

Segregation And The Civil Rights Movement
.... and parks, many of which were
poorly funded and inferior to those of whites. Over the next 75 years, Jim Crow
signs went up to separate the races in every possible place. The system of
segregation also included the denial of voting rights, known as disfranchisement.
Between 1890 and 1910 all Southern states passed laws imposing requirements for
voting that were used to prevent blacks from voting, in spite of the 15th
Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which had been designed to
protect bla .....

Our Prison System Sucks
.... This doesn't sound at all like a
prison. A prison is a place where people are supposed to be punished. Not
treated like guests. There is a fin line between being punished and being over
punished however. I'm not saying that each person should be beaten daily, or
made to stay in a cell by themselves with no one to talk to for an eternity.
The person should be punished according to the crime. "An eye for an eye."
This brings me to the subject of capital punishment. I'm sure some of you are
disgusted .....

Curfews, And Other Limits
.... problems with your teen, spend time with them and
talk to them. In dealing with a teen who has taken illegal drugs, you as a
parent need to try to understand why you teen has committed the crime. Only
when you understand the child, then you can give the appropriate punishment.
Another important factor in discipline is to make sure that the teen
understands why what they have done is wrong, and show them scripture to explain
it. If a child does not know why what they have done is bad, they will likely .....

The Influence Of Black Slave Culture On Early America
.... in the song "Gospel Train" with the lyrics, "Get on
board, little children/There's room for many a-more/The gospel train's a-leavin'
..." The "gospel train" of the song likely represented an escape method, such
as the Underground Railroad. Another type of music distinct to African slaves
was gospel. These songs originated in plantation fields as work songs, and were
later sung in churches of Black congregations. They were intended to enliven a
crowd, and employed bright music and joyful lyrics. Gospe .....

The Injustice Of Slavery
.... set free in America. But people
discriminated slaves very much, and that was not good.
Discrimination of African Americans is not that big now a days, but it
is still out there. Discrimination sort of died out when a man named Martin
Luther King, Jr. expressed some of his thoughts about discrimination. His famous
speech was entitled "I Have a Dream". Back before his speech, African Americans
were not treated as people. They had to stand at the back of the bus, they had
to live in a certain area of town, .....

Definition Of Integrity
.... integrity is also shown.
Danforth, is the prime example of having no loyalty towards himselfor his
beliefs. Danforth, is the Deputy Governor who convicts the citizens of being
witches. When Danforth is asked to pardon the accused, he refuses saying that
he can't because twelve have already hung for the same crime, and he refuses
to let asnyone off. Even though he knows what is right and that they are
innocent he won't because it would ruin the integrity of the court, and his own
recitude.

Diversity Within English
.... mountain ranges, rivers.
Linguists have done extensive studies on regional dialects, producing detailed
Linguistic Atlases. Many linguists can tell where a person is from just by
knowing whether a person carries groceries home from the supermarket in a paper
bag or from the grocery store in a paper sack (Yule 184). And the person who
comes home from the supermarket with a paper sack serves to remind us that
language variation is not a discrete, but rather a continuous variable.

The Problem Of Domestic Violence

defines epidemic as "a rapid spreading of a disease; to many people at the same
time", this is not the case with domestic violence, one it didn't just happen
overnight, it has just been popularized overnight, domestic violence has been
going on from as far back as anyone can remember and probably farther than that,
and two, this is not affecting many people at the same timem, because, as I've
stated before, "in most families men and women do not engage in physically

Down With Community Service
.... been doing a survey about the subject matter for a few days, and I have
come up with some interesting results. It seems that eight out of ten students
that are about to graduate high school are planning to go to college after they
graduate. I also asked them about doing community service. Most of them said
that they would be getting a job, and they would not have time to do community
service. My survey has brought me to the conclusion that students who are
thinking about going to college should not b .....
