Women And The Fight For Reform
.... offered a host of vital
services for immigrants and the poor. Wald suggested the formation of a
Federal Children's Bureau.
By the end of the 19th century, many women reformers focused on
the need for state laws to restrict child labor. Young children from poor
families had to work late hours in mines and mills and were exploited by
plant managers. No state laws prevented the children from being
overworked or abused.
One of the first to challenge the exploitation of orphaned or

The Conflicts Of The Black Race: Delayed Economic And Educational Progress
.... and psychological problems within the black community.
Therefore, lack of unity within the black community and the effects of racism
are two major factors when contribute to the slow progress of black people.
Before the Civil Rights movement racism was so blatant that not knowing it
existed would have been difficult. Presently, it is so subtle that some argue
we cannot blame racism for our problems. Unfortunately, they are wrong. The
effects of racism can be seen in the segregation of our neighborh .....

Elements Of The Argument: "What Is Poverty?"
.... "You say in your clean clothes coming from your
clean house, ..."(Parker 237). This causes the reader to feel guilty for having
the opportunity to be clean when we all know that she doesn't have the same.
She calls hot water a "luxury"(Parker 237). To those living in poverty hot
water is a luxury. The unimpoverished take it for granted and never before
considered it anything other than a basic possession. When the reader hears
that someone else calls it a luxury that they cannot afford, he or she can' .....

Abilities Of People With Disabilities
.... are a lot of diets you could try, but
why not exercise your right as a victim and strike back at discriminatory
employers? You might not lose any weight ,but at least you can get the job you
deserve. This is possible because of the courts and the Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission wants to extend protections under the 1973 Rehabilitation
Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act to obese people. In December of 1993
a Federal Appeals Court ruled unanimously to uphold an order that required the

A Black Cloud
.... the Skinheads are yet another group which have strong prejudices.
These so called Skinheads abominate most races other than their own. White
hooded silhouettes, German Soldiers echoing “Hail Hitler!”, and the infamous
Skinheads are harsh reminders of hatred which exists throughout the world.
In the same way that prejudices of large groups of people are expressed,
hate crimes are committed to demonstrate acts of hatred. Most recent are the
burning of black churches across the South. A crime of th .....

Gang Violence
.... If he didn't join, he'd be hunted down
and killed by the gang members. When older family member already in a gang,
younger siblings are often forced in.
Many gangs use graffiti to show their power and to mark their turf.
"Everywhere you go you see graffiti." Professor Allen Walker Read of Columbia
University said, "The pen is mightier than the sword." Gangs in Parma are very
active with the pen. They "tag" their property buildings and houses everywhere.
Police want to know where all the parents are .....

bad thing because the vegetation and fish are now no longer available) The blame
immediately lands upon the Uma aya Biafra, or teenagers of Igbuno. There is no
question, it is just assumed that teenagers were involved. (Unfortunately, Uche,
a teenager from Igbuno, has committed this heinous crime). Also, when the people
of Akpei find that someone is stealing from their huts, again without any
evidence, they surmise that teenagers are to blame. Lastly, Okei's ( Okei .....

Middle Class Blacks' Burden
.... brought up to believe that black people are of a lesser
standard. It is no wonder that many people think African Americans perform
inadequately even though these African Americans produce a high quality
satisfaction. The people that doubt the work of an African American can
obviously be seeing only the skin color. Lenita McClain states, "I am burdened
daily with showing whites that blacks are people." Shelby Steele asks, "After
all, since when had white Americans taken note of anything but color when .....

Animal Rights
.... scientists also agree that this experimental procedure
was wrong but only because primates have higher intelligence. I don't think it
is right for any animal of high or low intelligence, to suffer that way. In
other laboratories animals are confined to small cages or locked up so that thay
can't move. They are then used to test cosmetics and household chemicals. They
have chemicals poured on to their eyes and skin to see if they cause irritation.
These experiments would hurt the animals by causing .....

The Media

I would want the money to buy food, but if someone over in America just needed
my story for filler, I wouldn't be too happy.
It should be the tribe's leader that should have to get the tribe out of
trouble in any way that he could. It is not our business to send them our money
to get food for the people that got themselves into trouble, but I think it
makes people feel good to donate things to needy people. I just think that the
media isn't telling peopl .....

National Association For The Advancement Of Colored People

was released. This statement reiterated the treatment of the black race since
1865. Many notable figures in history signed "The Call" , e.g., Ida Wells
Barnett, Jane Adams, W.E.B. DuBois and John Dewey. In a matter of two months,
another conference was held. As a result of that conference, the NAACP was born.
A distinct factor of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People, which set it apart from its congruent movement, the Niagara Movement,
was involvement of both races. .....

Appearances - A Universal Concern

with tattoos all over his body, clothed in attire that is much too large, with
rings in all the most unexpected places, and sporting an outrageous hairdo,
considers himself very attractive indeed. Yet, so do the tall, smartly dressed

the Victorian era, when women's ankles were not even permitted to be exposed,

Appearance Vs. Reality Of Modern Music Affect On Teenagers

Think of all the things that teenagers have in front of them day-in, day-out;
radio, television, clothes of peers etc. All of which are covered with popular
musicians. So if they are so accessible then most people are aware of this so
they start to pay attention to it, they see these extravagant people with no
boundaries, limits or regulations. Most of modern "rock stars" have a catch
something that stands out from the rest which leads to peoples attention. Also

United States Of American: Personal Freedom
.... to Americans.
In Langston Hughes' poem, "Freedom," he emphasizes the struggle to enjoy
the freedoms that he knows are rightfully his. He reflects the American desire
for freedom now when he says, "I do not need my freedom when I'm dead. I cannot
live on tomorrow's bread." He recognizes the need for freedom in its entirety
without compromise or fear.
I think Langston Hughes captures the essence of the American immigrants'
quest for freedom in his poem, "Freedom's Plow." He accurately describes
