24061: "Black" and "White" Styles of Basketball
"Black" and "White" Styles of Basketball Since I don’t know that much about basketball, I really can not analyze the sport itself. But, I do think that Jeff Greenfield wrote a pretty good description on “black” and “white” basketball. Greenfield’s observation on basketball style between “black and “white” was a little confusing to me as I was reading. From, what I understand Greefield is trying to say is that “white” basketball seems to do more running back and forth, waiting for an open opportunity to shoot the ball into the basket. Where “black” basketball seems to take more challenging shots whether there’s an open spot or not. ”Black” style has more body movements than “white” style does. The way he generalizes each person seems to be well put in his or her right categories. Some of ...

24063: The Twenties And Thirties
... of people without jobs. In the twenties, industry took a very big step. The automotive industry was the largest industry there was. The assembly line made mass production possible, and the industry boomed. Henry Ford’s assembly line, located in Detroit, Michigan, was the largest one in the country and possibly in the world. When Ford first started making cars, the only car he made was a black Model-T. Almost everybody in the United States had a car. Three-out-of-four families owned one or more cars. With the assembly line they made a lot more cars in one day than they did before. Instead of paying for the cars with cash, people could now use credit to purchase items. Since most families didn’t have the money, they would buy the car with credit and pay off the debt later. The thirties was a bad time for the automotive industry. By now Ford had made a Model-A ...
24064: American Pickup Trucks
... the country where the truck is permanently engrained in the minds of the people who use them as a tool to make a living. These folks are probably more scrupulous than most because you can’t work and make money if your fixing your broken down truck. I do not think it would be possible to truly pronounce one vehicle brand the best over another, but just stop in down at ... trend does not seem to be stopping anytime soon. If you take a look at pickups made in Japan you will not find one as large as the full size pickup made in Detroit U.S.A. Of course if the Japanese built one the automakers would undoubtedly respond quickly to defend the proud heritage that these vehicles have made. Men probably are the main buyers of pickup trucks as they ... the most expensive luxury sedans on the market. In fact if you look at the sticker price on a new truck, you might suffer sticker shock because the price definitely rivals most nice cars. It’s hard to imagine a pig farmer hauling livestock to the local market needing ergonomically correct leather seating and Dolby surround sound, but they might as well ride in style and comfort too. For a ...
24065: Bilingual Education
... speaking different languages. In California, Spanish is the dominant language next to English, and in states such as Maine, French is spoken. Other cultures should not be assimilated into mainstream America completely, but America shouldn’t have to bend over backwards to make life easier for foreigners. In order to become more culturally tolerant, everyone should learn a second language, not just immigrants. Americans should make bilingual education truly bilingual. The first reason is to eliminate the effect bilingual education has on poor, non-English speaking children. In Richard Bernstein’s, “A War of Words” he says, “Advocates of bilingual education believe that it represents the best chance for non-English speaking children -- who, not so coincidentally, often come from lower-income groups – to enjoy the ... feel alone because they can not perform at the same level as their peers, they feel there is something wrong with them, lower than everyone else. “’Empowering Minority Students’ does not argue that a child’s inability to speak English is what leads him to fail if he is put into an English classroom. Children fail…because they are made to feel ‘shame’ for belonging to a minority group, for ...
