The story "Where are you going? Where have you been?" by Joyce Carol Oates, is about a young girl who was going threw a point in her life where she felt that her mother did not understand her. She felt that she could do no right in her others eyes. To make matters worse her mother was constantly comparing her to her older sister. Connie, the main character felt like she needed to escape. She met a boy who some how seemed to know just how she feels and offers to take here away but she is afraid of him and is not sure if she should go. Eventually she decides to leaves with him. Connie, the main character in the story is a fifteen-year-old girl with long blond hair that seamed to catch ever ones eye. She enjoyed looking at herself in the mirror knowing that she was beautiful. Being beautiful was everything to her....
