Antoine Lavoisier
Antoine Lavoisier was born in 1743 on August 26th in Paris. He studied at the College Mazarin. In 1768 he was elected a member of the Academy of Sciences. Through out his life he has held many public offices, some of which are director of the state gunpowder works, member of a commission to establish a uniform system of weights and measures, and also Antoine was the commissary of the treasury.
Antoine Lavoisier was a founder of modern chemistry, and one of the first to is effective quantitative methods to study reactions. He showed that although matter changes its state in a chemical reaction, the quantity of the matter is the same at the end as at the beginning of every chemical reaction. This gave experimental evidence of the law of composition of matter.
