He was born on November twelfth, 1863. He was born in Loton, Norway. He was the son of Christian and Laura Catherine Munch. Edvard was the second of five children. In 1864, the Munch family moved to the city of Oslo. This is where Edvard began his art training. In 1868 his mother died of tuberculosis when Edvard was only five.
