His story is one of uniqueness as well as perseverance, learned lessons of survival and hardships. In 1991 then President George W. Bush nominated Mr. Thomas for Supreme Court Justice after then Justice Thurgood Marshall retired. As a child Mr. Thomas says, “he could not dare dream of ever seeing the Supreme Court, not to mention ever being nominated to it”.
