Ludwig Van Beethoven (1770 to 1827) Ludwig Van Beethoven was born in Bonn in Germany, on December 17, 1770. His mother was a singer in the service of the Elector of Cologne. His father was quick to recognize his son’s talent for music, and started giving him piano lessons at the young age of four. Beethoven soon held a prestigious position as assistant organist in the Electoral Chapel, were he first started his organ lessons. An interesting story from his childhood is his meeting with Mozart. In early April, 1787, while visiting Vienna, Beethoven supposedly had a few lessons from Mozart. In one of those meetings, Beethoven played a well-rehearsed piece at the piano for Mozart, at the end of which Mozart praised it coldly and politely.
