His radical views of the role of the Roman Church and the education system shortly wide spread throughout Europe. Luther upheld the Bible as the Supreme authority for the Christian.
In the middle of the 16th century, Luther made a visit to Rome. The life and conduct of the papal authorities deeply altered his confidence on the Rome Church. Common in those days were the practices of selling indulgences for money. People who purchased these indulgences were promised freedom form punishment on earth.
