Toni Morrison Interview Toni Morrison is one of America's most acclaimed and recognized writer of the twentieth century. The recent interview that I had the opportunity to view featured Toni Morrison and focused on her prize winning book, Beloved. At the beginning of her interview, she discussed how her novel was based upon the true story of a slave named Margaret Garner. Garner tried to shield her children from the horrors of slavery by attempting to kill them. Garner hit her two boys with a shovel, cut her little girl's throat, and slammed another one against a wall. Just like Morrison's character, Sethe, she succeeded in killing one of her four children.
