Essay Galaxy - Giorgione
Giorgione was one of the most influential painters of the High Renaissance. However, much of his life remains a mystery. His given name, Zorzi da Castelfranco, makes his birthplace quite obvious. He was also known as Giorgio da Castlefranco, and Giorgio Barbarelli. Historians are even unsure of his birth year, due to lack of birth or baptismal records, though most agree it is around 1478. He was apprenticed to Giovanni Bellini between the age of 12 and 14. According to Vasari, he left his home town in 1492 to study under Bellini, who also taught Titan. He died of the plague in 1510.
Aside from his teacher, Bellini, several others had a profound influence on the style of Giorgione. Vasari tells us that DaVincis chiaroscuro made its impression on Giorgiones work after he visited Venice in late 1499 and March of 1500. However, Hieronymus Bosch also greatly influenced his work.
