John Kenneth Galbraith, the position of poverty, brought on a lively class discussion with many personal views being voiced. I do not think poverty is discussed often and many different views of poverty were voiced.
I believe that most often an individual that is determined, can work to rise above the poverty level and be an active member of the work force in our society today. First we must identify what is poverty? In class we had different views voiced on what is poverty, does poverty mean you dont work and live off government handouts or work at a low paying, dead end job. Most of the discussion members agreed that both would be considered poverty.
In 1958 Gabraith stated that people are poverty-stricken when their income, even if adequate for survival, falls radically behind that of the community....
