The rise of new machinery following the industrial revolution lead former farmers to migrate into the cities in search of new jobs This rise in population lead to the formation of new towns. The rural migrants who moved to the cites were uprooted from their traditional social ties. They often confronted poor housing, lower quality of food social anonymity and unemployment.
