Center of Gravity
The center of gravity, according to the Webster's New World
Dictionary, the point in a body, or in a system of bodies, at which the
weight is equal to the forward of the object as the rear. In other words,
it is the point where the weight is equal in the front and in the back. If
you could balance it on this place it would not tilt or slide in any
direction.
The center of gravity is present in all objects, for example, you
can visualize the center of gravity on a playground see-saw. Two people of
equal weights can evenly balance the see-saw if they sit in the same place.
If one scoots forward or backward the center of gravity changes and it
begins to move one way or another.
The center of gravity of a symmetrical uniform object lies at the
object's center, but it may lie outside the center if any weight is added
or subtracted. Many toys that have trouble balancing....
