Porphyrias Lover
"Porphyrias Lover" is a poem by Robert Browning. Browning wrote the poem about one hundred years ago with the intention for it to be a dramatic monologue. A dramatic monologue is a poem uttered by one speaker, not the poet, but by a character being auto biographical at a critical moment. Also during the course of the poem the speaker should unintentionally reveal the key aspects of his or her character.
Through close reference to the poem I will comment on whether or not I feel Browning has achieved the intended affect.
The poem is about a female called Porphyria who is meeting with her Lover. I think she is already involved with or married to another, richer man and is having an affair with this Lover.
I think this because her lover says this:
