Catullus
Catullus is one of the most lyrical of all the Greek authors. His works have been praised and today, are a standard by which poets try to mimic. Even though his works are often thought racy and not always appropriate, he is hailed as one if the greatest of the Greek love poets. The most famous of his works is a collection of poems he had written referring to a married woman named Lesbia. He wrote the poems as a sequence and one can see not only how the relationship progresses but also the true love and later hatred he felt for this woman. At times playful, others more erotic, these poems represent the strange relationship Catullus found himself in.
