Robert Frost was born in 1874 in San Francisco. When he was eleven years old his father died, and he relocated to Lawrence, Massachusetts, where his grandparents lived. In 1892, he graduated from Lawrence High School and shared valedictorian with honors with Elinor White, whom he married just three years later.
