Frost's Home Burial
Although it is unclear exactly when this poem took place, Frost
sadly describes a small burial ground outside a couple’s home and some very
serious issues that arise. It seems as though Amy and her husband have
lost a child at birth. It’s unclear exactly how much time has elapsed
since the child’s death, but I’ll assume it hasn’t been that long and
probably less than a year. Any is obviously grieving the death of her
child and her husband is grieving as well. Their lack (or fear) of
communication finds them at odds regarding any exchange of their personal
feelings. Amy and her husband have done their individual “styles” of
grieving. Amy’s is long and painful and her husband’s seems shorter and to
the point.
The poem begins with Amy’s husband being somewhat annoyed as he
looks up to the top of the stairs and asks her why she always gazes out....
