The first three speeches given in Platos Symposium (Phaedras, Pausanias, and Eryximachus) each possessed an undermining philosophy unique unto themselves. Phaedras began with the nature of love, followed by Pausanias and Eryximachus whom both discussed the ethics and application of love in the world with coinciding speeches. Though at first glance one would think that these oratories were solely about love, under analysis one finds that they make judgments on the society in which they live and attempt to best each other in finding the perfect method for justifying a thesis.
