Romeo and Juliet: Love and Their Ends
The love story of Romeo and Juliet is widely read and known throughout the western world. Friar Laurence states one of the major themes in the play: Therefore, love moderately, long love doth so(II, vi, Line 14). He sees that the two lovers are so passionately in love that it might burn out. Throughout the play are many examples of love and their ends. The first example is of Romeos love for Rosaline.
As the play opens, Romeo Montague is first mentioned fleeing from Benvolio, Lord Montagues nephew. Benvolio catches up with Romeo later and discovers that Romeo is passionately in love with Rosaline.
