Raw Deal: Film Techniques Watching a film is easy, but actually analyzing it can be very difficult. When most people watch films they do not pay attention to the different technical properties that go into making a film. Raw Deal, which was directed by Anthony Mann in 1948, is a classic example of film noir, which focuses on organized crime and the gangster scene in the forties and fifties. Raw Deal uses numerous technical aspects to enhance certain scenes or characters.
