A movie that tells the history of African Americans moving from Southern cities to the North and West. It is mostly told by several older Chicagoans born in the Mississippi Delta. It explains the struggle and success of the travel for African Americans to have a better life.
In the late 19th century, early 20th century, segregation was becoming more common including the Jim Crow system. African Americans did not get to choose where to live and work. Laws forced them where to live, work, and even get schooling. After this slavery was slowly abolished, African Americans were still in a "slavery" type role.
Most African Americans rented land from a landlord, and became sharecroppers. Money was loaned to them, from the landlords, for seeds, tools, food, and other necessary items. After....
