It explains the struggle and success of the travel for African Americans to have a better life. In the late 19th century, early 20th century, segregation was becoming more common including the Jim Crow system. African Americans did not get to choose where to live and work. Laws forced them where to live, work, and even get schooling. After this slavery was slowly abolished, African Americans were still in a "slavery" type role.
