We encounter everyday tragedy of self-destruction. In the play Fences written by August Wilson, forces in African-American life are used by Wilson to counteract the story of Troys fall from grace. First, Troy was a man of hard work and responsibility. Second, Troy taught his son not to make the same mistake he made. Lastly, he was a fighter who fought hard with life to stay alive.
Although Troys life was mostly about baseball, his family was one of his top priorities. He took responsibilities for his family no matter how hard things got for him. He provided for his family first through the hard way. For example, when he had Lyons, he had to steal to provide for Lyons and his mother. Troy was also a hard-working man.
