The image of an egg being "our brain on drugs" is still clear to us ten years after the popular commercial was on television. Society today has accepted into its mainstream that drugs are a negative force in our society, and "the toll of drug use measured in lost productivity, in rising health insurance costs, in hospitals flooded with drug overdose emergencies, in drug caused accidents, and in premature death- is surely more than we would like to bear" (Bennet 937). Yet, a problem that has plagued our society for a quarter of a century and beyond, has not seemed to improve. Something must be done about it.
