Prohibition [of marijuana] goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a mans appetite by legislation and makes crimes out of things that are not crimes (Abraham Lincoln.) Marijuana has been illegal in the United States of America since 1937, and has yet to stop the marijuana usage. The original reason for prohibiting marijuana seems to be based on lack of knowledge of the drug. However, since the 30s studies have been shown to disprove the myths against marijuana. What has marijuana prohibition accomplished? It has made criminal drug dealers richer, cost taxpayers tremendous amounts of money and it tears apart families with members that use marijuana. Since marijuana prohibition has not yet achieved its goal, it is time to reconsider.
