From the Menstral Cycle to Birth The Hypothalamus releases the gonadotropin-releasing hormone(GnRH). This hormone actives the pituitary gland to release the follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH) and the luteining hormone(LH). FSH is carried by the blood to the ovaries, where the follicle development is stimulated. The follicles secretes estrogen which initiates the mormation of the endometrium. As the estrogen level rises negative feedback shuts down the production of FSH and at the same time a messege is sent to the pituitary gland to secrete LH. As the level of Lh increases ovulation occurs. After ovulation the remaining follicle cells transform into the corpus luteum.
