Psychological Bond Between Infants and Parents An attachment is defined as a psychological bond between an infant and his or her primary caregiver Bowlby (1969). Attachment provides a secure emotional base from which mature relationships develop. Research shows that inadequate attachment such as, malnutrition and any type of abuse, hinders the social and emotional development throughout life.
