The Dangers of Smoking We know what it is, see it every day, and disregard it as of no consequence. It is smoking, the single most preventable cause of premature death in the United States. In fact, approximately 400, 000 Americans die per year from smoking ciggerettes. Smoking is obviously dangerous but there are ways in which it could possibly be reduced. Both men and women are succeptible to a higher risk of lung cancer if they smoke. On average, for a male smoker the chances of getting lung cancer are 22 times greater then for a male that does not smoke. For women, they have 12 times the risk of a non-smoker. So for all of the males in the class, you can see that your odds of getting this deadly disease is alomst double that of women. Since 1964 female deaths from lung cancer have increased....
