Cuba is the largest of the Caribbean islands located 145km south of the United States across the Florida straits. The island is about 750 miles long with an average width of 60 miles and maximum width of 125 miles. Havana is the capital of Cuba and the nations leading seaport. Spanish conquistadors founded the city during the 16th century. The Americans who are permitted to visit Cuba are the ones visiting close family once a year for humanitarian reasons. Many Americans have found ways to visit Cuba despite restrictions.
