The Odyssey and Gilgamesh
Throughout the epic poems The Odyssey and Gilgamesh both characters reveal traits of an epic hero. Both characters share god-like traits and have a variety of enemies. Each hero presents physical strength, but also goes through the emotional effects of loneliness. Each of the heroes in some way become unselfish in the end.
Each hero has god-like traits. Odysseus, who was not a god, is referred to constantly as godlike Odysseus, (Homerl.21). Odysseus is a man of both physical and intellectual prowess. When Odysseus fights off the suitors he uses his physical prowess to string the bow that no one else could and uses his intellectual prowess by disguising himself as an old man to trick the suitors. Gilgamesh, as king is two thirds god and given a very high position as if he was a god. Gilgamesh, like Zeus was very fond of sex. Herbert Ma....
