The American Dream What is the American Dram, and is it actually working in our society today? The idea of the American Dream has existed in the United States since the beginning of capitalism. The Dream stands on the belief that if one works hard and diligently opportunities and reward will come his/her way. Many people have described the American dream in different ways. Basically, attaining high paying jobs, working hard to become materially successful, and striving for an economically comfortable life with freedom is the basis of which these ideas were formed.
