My Role As A Pastoral Counselor My personal theology of pastoral counseling is formed by my belief in the power of the written word of God. The writer of Hebrews states, For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 (NIV). Therefore, I believe the main role of the pastor in counseling is to direct the counselee to what the Word would say about their feelings, problems, questions and situation.
