Utilitarianism
The basic underlying philosophical idea of Utilitarianism upholds the belief that the action that creates the highest aggregate happiness is the morally right thing to do. Furthermore, if an action were to lower the aggregate of happiness then that action would not be morally justifiable. An objection to the theory of Utilitarianism is the fact that proponents of this theory must admit that in certain situations the institution of slavery is morally justifiable. Although this may be true it is not a valid or fair objection to this theory. It is my intent to examine the arguments objecting to this theory and reveal why they are not valid, rational objections to this theory. Act Utilitarianism will be the specific theory used for the presentation and discrediting of the arguments against Utilitarianism.....
