characterized “Western man”. Bertrand de Jouvenel goes on to say, “He does
not seem to realize at all that human life is a dependent part of an
ecosystem of many different forms of life.” I strongly agree with both of
these assumptions in most cases.
I thought this essay was well written and gave many strong points. I
believe modern economists take many things for granted, even more so modern
Americans. Unlike the Buddhists most Americans have little or no regard
for trees and natural resources. As these resources are rapidly depleting
we continue to increase the rate at which we use them. Again as a
generalization, Americans are more concerned with materialism then personal
enlightenment. They ha....
