In the OECD forecast, which came out in March of this year, real growth for 1998 is projected to be -0.3%. The IMF forecasts zero growth. Stock prices continue to drop; the Nikkei index is now below 15,000. The dollar used to sell for 80 yen, but today the rate is in the 130s. Some banks and securities companies have failed.
