Character Study: Local Residents The majority of residents living in the villages of Mottram, Hollingworth and Tintwistle are likely to be in favour of a bypass. A recent opinion poll showed an overwhelming majority of 98% of those questioned living in the local area were in support of the proposed bypass. Living on Market Street, Hollingworth without a bypass is a nightmare. The busy road is only a couple of metres away from my front door. Even through the walls and double glazing I can still hear the traffic in the back rooms of my house. Sometimes I can’t sleep at night because of the constant thunder of heavy lorries along the road. The house vibrates, and windows rattle as the traffic roars by. This surely must cause damage to the structure of the house.
