The Internal Combustion Engine
I have chosen to do my physics report on the internal-combustion engine. I will mention the four-stroke cycle, the components of an engine, the ignition system, the carburetor system and how an engine works.
The four-stroke cycle obviously has four strokes, which consists of the intake stroke, the compression stroke, the power stroke and the exhaust stroke. The intake stroke occurs when the air/fuel mixture enters the cylinder through a one way valve which is housed in the cylinder head (the cylinder head also houses the lifters and valve springs which help control the opening and closing of the valve). That is the first stroke. The second is the compression stroke. This is when the piston moves up and compresses the air/fuel mixture. The mixture is compressed from atmospheric pressure to between 70 and 125 lb/sq inch. Then the power strok....
