The Black Cat: The Narrator Is Crazy The narrator of “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allen Poe is, without a doubt, crazy. The first word that comes to mind when thinking of the exact type of mental illness that the narrator suffers from is, Schizophrenia. When a person is schizophrenic their personality can change drastically from one minute to the next. The main character’s emotions jump all over the place through out the story.
