Animal Farm was published in August 1945, just near the end of World War II. It is commonly accepted as a fable describing the failures of communism. After the war, respect for communist forms of government was growing around the world. Orwell tried to show through his book that Russia was not a true Socialist country.
It is in Animal Farm that Orwell’s social theory, which can be seen through a careful reading of what the animals refer to as Animalism. Animalism, as we will see, has its faults and inaccuracies, Orwell’s use of it is to put forth his own political and social doctrine based on remedying those faults (“Animalism”).
