A Horseman In The Sky
The story takes place in Virginia in 1861. A soldier, Carter Druse, has fallen asleep at his post on a sunny autumn day. Because the story takes place in 1861, the soldier is serving in the Civil War. He was happily living in Virginia with his parents, when a Union regiment came to the town he was living in. Although he was being a traitor to the south he joined the Union army. Some of the last words his father said to him before he left, were, Well, go, sir, and whatever may occur do what you conceive to be your duty. Virginia, to which you are a traitor, must go on without you. He was very tired, and the sun soothed him to sleep, so he slept, knowing that if he was caught he would be shot.
