Wuthering Heights, written in Gothic style by Emily Bronte, has a somber tone, dark and evil themes. One of the major themes is tyranny. Tyranny, meaning oppressive power, which it contributes to Gothic style. Tyranny is uniquely used because all of the oppressors are aware of its use and yet while they are capable of hurting some characters, they also show love towards others. Tyranny, normally thought of as an obsession with powers, is used in Wuthering Heights as a weapon to hurt specific characters.
The two characters who maliciously oppress others are Hindley Earnshaw and Heathcliff. As soon as Hindleys father, Mr. Earnshaw adopts Heathcliff, Hindley is jealous of the love between his father and Heathcliff. This added to Hindleys worry that he will be cheated out....
