Araby and A Rose For Emily: Comparison
These two short stories: Araby, by James Joyce; and A Rose for Emily, by William Faulkner; conclude in a way that would leave the reader thinking. In Araby my initial view of the young boy was reinforced by the ending, however in A Rose for Emily my view of Miss Emily was left changed in many ways depending on how I looked at the ending. The ending of these stories are very important in picturing the characters to be at the end, reinforcing or changing the way I pictured them in the beginning.
In Araby, the young boy was pictured to me as a very curious, horny, And hung up over Mangans sister. Hints of his horniness were being thrown at the reader throughout the story.
