In the play, Death of a Salesman, Linda Loman is the character that is at fault for the downfall of her two sons, Happy and Biff, and her husband Willy. Linda is a controlling mother figure who doesnt allow her family members to become any better than they already are. This is why she is the cause of their demise.
Linda Loman attempts to be a good mother but she doesnt know her actions are harmful. When Willy first comes home at the beginning of the play because he wrecks the car again, Linda takes the blame off of him and blames the car. "Oh. Maybe it was the steering again. Angelo doesnt know the Studebaker" (13). She not only blames his driving problems on the car but also his glasses. "Maybe its your glasses. You never went for new glasses" (13).
