When put under new circumstances and surroundings, some people may experience physical, psychological and/or mental changes. However, some people do not change at all. In the Nobel Prize-winning novel, Lord of the Flies, William Golding, the author, has placed a group of British schoolboys on an isolated island. Most of the boys behaved rationally at the beginning of the novel. However, as the story progressed, the wilderness of the island and the boys' fear of the "beastie" started to bring out the instincts within the boys, which were hidden by the restrictions and the providers of the society. The boys' main interest was not establishing a civilized society with a regular tea time. Instead, they wanted to survive and have fun at the same time.
