Jim Hawkins, the main character in the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, has a defined position in the story and the events that take place are recounted in his point of view. In a way, the boy Jim is “stuck” in the middle of all the chaos that is occurring around him. Jim, along with the reader, is introduced to characters with extremely different personalities and opinions such as Dr. Livesey, Long John Silver, Squire Trewlawny, and Captain Smollet. The author’s intent is to portray to the reader how by working with one another much can be accomplished.
