In his book The Periodic Kingdom, P.W. Atkins takes a different approach to trying to explain the periodic table to the common reader. He compares the periodic table to a kingdom and then uses other analogies and similes to explain different aspects of the table.
When you first open the book and look at the table of contents one can tell that this isnt going to be your ordinary chemistry book. The titles Geography, History, and Government and Institutions are not titles you think of when talking about the periodic table. When you open up Part One, Chapter One, the first paragraph invites you to come and learn of the periodic kingdom, Welcome to the Periodic Kingdom.
