One explanation promotes idea that Joseph K represents Kafka himself and the difficulties he encounters both physically, emotionally and spiritually throughout his own life.
Franz Kafka, born in 1883, led a sad life with problems that began in his early years. He had a depressing childhood, caused by an abusive relationship with his father, which affected all of his relationships later in life.
