Silent Spring: Abuse of Pesticides
 Rachel Carsons Silent Spring brought about an awareness of the abuse of  pesticides in the 1960s. She told the stories of how deadly pesticides  could be to the environment, wildlife, and even humans. There were very  few regulations on all the new chemicals that were widely used after  World War II, and not enough time was spent on researching the possible  harmful affects. After she made the country aware of the dangers, the  government had to change the way they regulated pesticides.
DDT was one of the first cure all pesticides. It was used heavily and  would kill almost everything. The bad part wasnt realized, it collects  in the environment and builds to highly toxic levels. Many birds, fish,  and humans were killed before this was realized. Farmers were putting  this stuff on their field....
