Escaping Harlem The story “Sonny’s Blues”, by James Baldwin, is about two brothers who find themselves to have grown apart over the years. Sonny’s brother finally learns about his brother’s whereabouts one day while reading the newspaper. His brother had been arrested in a drug sting. Now years later after Sonny gets out of prison the brothers are united together again. The place that they were both trying so hard to leave is the place where they find their common ground. The central idea of this story is that sometimes people who want to be heard and not changed do foolish things.
