In the story "The Ones Who Walked Away From Omelas" Ursula Le Guin used a child as a psychomyth. The use of a child is a very potent choice because of a childs innocence, and how we value it as adults. This scapegoat is being used not just to keep the town good and pure, but, more symbolically to represent the wretched world we live in. All of the evil that exists in our world is portrayed by this child and its setting while Omelas keeps away these evils by keeping the child a prisoner.
The child is imprisoned in a dark room with one locked door, no window, stale foul-smelling old mops in a corner, a damp dirt floor, and only the size of a broom closet. The child lives in this room sitting and lying in his own excretions. The child can no longer ....
